Kathryn Bigelow last night made Oscar history when she was named Best Director for The Hurt Locker, the first woman to be crowned the queen of Hollywood in the 82-year history of the Academy Awards.
The triumph for Bigelow, who has made a career making films featuring predominantly macho subjects including bank-robbing surfers in Point Break and Army bomb disposal experts in The Hurt Locker, last night proved she is truly comfortable in a man’s world.
